Ivy, what is it about this SingerSongwriter Contest?
Currently, I am under the Top 15 of 600 applicants in the SingerSongwriter Contest of the guitar manufacturer Walden Guitars. Everyone, who is supporting me via online voting will help me to get a bit closer to my big goals. By the way, you can vote for me HERE.
1. Okay, please introduce yourself: Where are you from, how old are you and what are you doing beside your music?
Hi, I’m Ivy, 21 years old and I live in a German village between Hanover and Hildesheim. If it happens that I am not making music, I probably work in a small office creating and selling illuminated signs for yachts. Sometimes I am just dreaming or thinking. Or else, I draw, read and write a lot.
2. What can you tell us more about your musical carreer?
I’ve been singing very intensively since I was child, but hiding my voice in my room. I always dreamt of singing lessons, secretly. When I was 16 it came true for once – twice a week. That’s why I wanted to work and gain money. Two years later, I met my new vocal coach Roland Loy who produced my first 3 track demo, and a year later 4 songs of mine followed. At this time, I wrote my songs playing some rough chords at the piano. For some reason I took a guitar at the age of 20 – and never let it fall again. With her I write, I sing and she accompanies me on stage.
3.How would you describe your music? Do you have a certain message or any idols?
My music is quite emotional. It guides the listener softly through the song. I like to play with my voice, to let it soar, which gives it an expression no just spoken word could ever give. For me , an idol is someone who IS his music, who lives his song and who is taken up with it. Therefore, I love Eva Cassidy and Bob Dylan. I think, there’s a message in each of my songs. I don’t have the one and only message. That’s why I am writing songs. Otherwise, one would be enough.
4.What was the craziest thing happening in your musical past?
My first gig with my guitar. Right before Christmas, when I have just started playing, I had this gig. I was so nervous! My hands so sweaty and trembling, trying to play my song. It was a nice try to catch the sides of my guitar with these exuberant fingers of mine! After that, I sang two songs A Capella. Thank God, it was Christmas. So it wasn’t peculiar.
5.What was your greatest success? What happened and how?
A big success was my first gig – again – with my own songs, but still when I couldn’t play an instrument yet. My vocal coach played the piano. The audience listened to me with a tangible intension and tears in their eyes. This told me that I can touch the people with my music.
6.What are your plans for the future?
I want to play live! My next goal is a touring as a support for a cool band or artist. Besides, I am working on my voice, my guitar play, on songs and lyrics. Further, I hope for new investors while I myself save money for my first album, too. I really want to give my best for that. Not only that I need to write great songs, but also they must gain a brilliant production. The whole quality is important and this shall convince.
7.Why are you taking part in ForMyBand?
Suddenly I was there. Didn’t know if this is serious, good or bad, but I registered myself. Now, every investor of mine is a reason to be there.
8.Do you have a manager or good friends supporting you?
I have no manager. Still I arrange myself. Therefore I am happy about every support. No matter, if it is a just comment or a feedback.
9.Do you have fans? How do you treat them?
I don’t know, I can’t deal with this word. When I hear it, I have to think of crying girls. There are listeners, and they are like you and like me.
10.What can we expect from Ivy Mellin on stage?
Emotional songs filled with all of my heart and soul, my guitar and me. And, a little secret: Maybe, soon a sweet harmonica…
